First Day Of School Newsletter

Dear Parents/Guardians:
Welcome to a new school year at St. James Catholic School and to our Grade ½ class! It is my pleasure to be teaching your child this year. I look forward to working with you and your child. The first few weeks the children will be making new friends and adjusting to our classroom rules and routines. A major emphasis with my students is that effort is more important than ability in achieving success and that a student’s “job” is to work hard and try their best!
An agenda and mailbag has been provided for your child. Please have your child return the agenda in the mailbag each day as this will be used as a form of communication as well as newsletters and important information.
As part of our Religion program I kindly ask that each child bring in a family photo. The students will be using the photo to introduce their families. The photos will be kept for the year and have a special place on our “Family Tree” in the classroom. I would love to have the photos by the end of this week if possible! Thank-you!
St. James eco initiative is for students to bring “litter-less” lunches.  Anything that cannot be recycled or composted will be returned in your child’s lunchbox. Students are given two snack times per day in addition to a regular lunch period. Thank-you in advance, for your participation in this initiative.
We will have a class website that I encourage you to check often. As an effort to go paperless I will be posting important dates, newsletters, reminders and information. The site will also give you a chance to get a “sneak peek” into our classroom activities!
You can reach the site at:

Housekeeping Items:
-Students need a pair of indoor running shoes to wear in the classroom.  Shoes should be easy to get on and off, as well as safe to wear during gym class.
-Students do not need to bring any school supplies. Our class shares all our pencils, pencil crayons, crayons, markers, scissors, erasers etc.
-If possible each child should bring:
  • 1 box of Kleenex
  • 1 box of large Zip-lock bags
  • 1 package of plastic spoons or forks
  • A personal set of ear/head phones in a labeled Zip-lock bag.
  • Extra clothes- Please pack a large Zip-lock labelled with your child's name that includes: extra shirt, pants, underwear, socks for those possible mishaps at school.
  • A water bottle - Please label your child's water bottle.

Thank-you for your cooperation and support. I look forward to working with you and your child!
Your Partner in Catholic Education,

Kathryn Boisvert
